Team members from UHP, including from Dorset Dogs, BARI and Firewise UK, got involved and volunteered at W&S Recycling, Poole to help dismantle 8000 disposable BBQs.
The event was organised by our colleagues at Litter Free Dorset and came about as Southern Co-op stores have agreed to stop the sale of disposable BBQs, and this was their leftover stock.
The BBQs were broken down into their component parts for recycling or repurposing. For example, the charcoal was donated to Swanage Railway for their steam trains.
Colleagues from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue lent a hand, along with NFU Mutual, Wessex Water and Dorset Council. The day went so well that all 8000 BBQs were dismantled by lunchtime!
