Wildfires pose a significant threat to Dorset’s rare and beautiful heathlands. Last week 40 land managers joined forces with Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service at Avon Heath Country Park for a day of expert wildfire training, ahead of higher temperatures and lower rainfall predicted for this summer.
Led by wildfire specialists Andy Elliott and Chris Mitchell, the day covered fire behaviour, equipment use, and response techniques—strengthening our community’s ability to protect wildlife, landscapes, and local residents.
