Apr 20, 2022

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a coastal engagement warden within Poole Harbour’s Bird and Recreation Initiative (AKA BARI).

This is an engagement role that requires a positive attitude and a passion to deliver upbeat, innovative and creative messaging on-site and digitally.

Poole Harbour is designated SSSI, RAMSAR and SPA for its important wildlife and habitats. It also provides a resource for a variety of local businesses and port activities and has a thriving community of recreational users. The Increase in recreational activities both on land and sea, brought about by new housing development is leading to increased disturbance to overwintering SPA bird species. Mitigating this bird disturbance through awareness raising is the focus of the coastal engagement warden’s role.

You will work closely with the project coordinator, leading on engagement and communications targeting local recreation communities and businesses including water sports, fishermen and dog walkers. Liaising with community organisations, land managers and rangers to set up events and activities that engage diverse audiences.

BARI is a partnership project between Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) councils and the role is managed by Urban Heath Partnership.
