Team members from across the partners got together last week for 2 days of wildfire training with Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS).
Their Wildfire Tactical Advisor delivered an introduction to wildfire and the associated hazards. He also talked about how, as land managers, the partners can manage the habitat on their sites and what to be aware of with a view to assisting the fire service when needed.
Wildfires are on the increase in the UK and a real and present threat to our landscapes, wildlife, homes and us. The partnership works alongside DWFRS and receives regular training so we can work as effectively as possible when a wildfire strikes.
The public can also assist by never lighting fires or BBQs on heathland or in forests, and dialling 999 if they discover a fire in the open.
Many thanks to Avon Heath Country Park for hosting us all.
